A Father’s Day Thank You From Vida

An Open Letter to Fathers:

Thank you.

Thank you for all the precious moments you contribute to the lives of your family. You can’t imagine the impact your jokes, stories, and “famous sayings” have on the memories of those who love you. You shape entire lifetimes through your advice, through your gentle guidance and encouragement.

Thank you for being you, for being part of the glue that keeps family together. For wiping your wife and children’s tears in times of hardship, while holding back your own. Thank you for being vulnerable when you do cry, showing your children it’s ok for men to show emotion.

Thank you for listening. Thank you for taking the time to hear the concerns of your children, and acting to help, even if it’s just killing a spider or checking under the bed for monsters.

Thank you for answering silly questions, and entertaining the imaginations of your children.

Thank you for wild adventures through the mystical lands of the playroom, for turning the living room into whatever fantasy world your child wants it to be.

Thank you for supporting your family. You work so hard; it’s difficult to describe how much you give so your family can have amazing lives.

Thank you for having the difficult conversations, and being a voice of reason. Thank you for leading by example for your children, for giving them the tools to lead a successful and fulfilling life.

Thank you for your strength, physically and mentally. Yes, even the great feat of unscrewing a tight jar of jam. Thank you for your hard work to keep your house running, inside and out.

Thank you for your humility, for showing your children that it’s ok to be proud, but not to brag. You show your children how to balance confidence, poise, and determination with compassion, vulnerability, and patience.

Thank you for showing your sons how a father should act, and showing your daughters how they should be treated.

Thank you for all the roles you take on as a dad. For being a coach, counselor, chef, sports fan, performance audience member, repairman, financial advisor, the list goes on and on.

Thank you for being you, for being the best father your family could ever ask for.
